How to Use the Similarities Engine

A few quick tips to get the best results.

The basic idea is simple: pick five albums you love, click Get Recommendations, and the Engine will show you what listeners with similar taste loved too. Here are some tips to make it go smoothly.

Searching for your albums

• Do some typing of the artist and/or album name, then pause for a moment. That will let the system build the drop-down list you can choose from. Then click the entry that matches the record you mean.
• You can search by artist, album, or both. An artist's name plus a word from the album title works especially well.
• Pick the exact record from the drop-down rather than just typing it. That's what lets the Engine know precisely which album you mean.

Listening on Spotify

The result items are also links to Spotify's web site. Click on an item to go listen! If you don't have a paid Spotify account, you will only be able to listen to 30 seconds of each song, fyi.

Getting a longer list by email

Your results page shows a top handful of recommendations. If you would like a longer list emailed to you, look for the email box at the bottom of your results (there is also a “Want a longer list? Have it emailed to you” link just above your results that jumps you straight to it). Enter your address and we will send the full list.
